Hey! My name is Cait
and I’m the girl behind Sunburnt & Salty.

I’m a yoga & therapeutic specialist and a lifelong surfer. I also love learning & consider myself a ‘forever student’ of the world.

I was born and raised on an island just off of the South Carolina coast and, thanks to my parents, I’ve been a water baby since the very beginning.

My dad taught me how to surf and most of our family outings and vacations revovled around surfing and spending time in nature. We regularly traveled to Puerto Rico — one of the main reasons that I made the move here over 10 years ago!

My love for movement, teaching, health, and sports comes from my mom. She was a group fitness instructor for over 30 years! I loved going to her classes and I grew up playing soccer, basketball, and surfing competitively.

Obviously, surfing eventually took priority. It’s been a factor in most of my major life decisions and hasn’t steered me wrong yet! In fact, I chose a university based on its proximity to decent surf.

It was in University where I discovered yoga and its healing benefits. Thanks to the dangerous combo of my 21st birthday + high heels + too much booze, I ended up tearing my MCL — an injury that left me off of my feet and off of my surfboard for what felt like far too long.

YOGA PROVIDED A PATHWAY BACK TO MOVEMENT, FREEDOM, AND MYSELF. It unlocked a whole new spiritual depth to my surfing, as well.

A few years after that injury, I ended up enrolling in my first 200-hour teacher training at the same studio, and with the same teacher, that helped me to fall in love with the practice. I never thought I’d end up teaching yoga, but the practice has been so impactful in my life that I knew I had to share it with others.

Since then, I have completed my 500-hour training with the amazing team at Yoga Medicine and I’m honored to carry and uphold the title of a YM Registered Therapeutic Specialist.

Even as a teacher, I also acknowledge that I am a “forever student” and I’m dedicated to learning and unlearning as I grow.

I’m currently enrolled in the Yoga Medicine 1000-hour Program and studying to become a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).

I’m deeply inspired by nature and strive to offer balanced and approachable classes that focus on function rather than aesthetics. I like to blend mindful movement with intentional breathing and often incorporate myofascial release and meditation into my group classes and private sessions.

Along with my personal experiences, and my extensive studies of both yoga philosophy and anatomy & physiology, I’ve come to understand that we as humans are incredibly resilient and adaptable. And just like all of nature, we as humans carry within us a wisdom — like an inner compass — that extends far beyond our intellectual and analytical brains.

It’s my goal as a teacher to provide my students with the knowledge, support, tools, and resources that empower them to intuitively and intentionally tap into this wisdom — not only on the mat, but also off of the mat in daily life.

I work with a variety of people for a variety of needs. Overall, I like to think of myself as a “maintenance mechanic,” sharing these tools and techniques that help us — as humans — to reconnect to that inner compass and to feel good & live well.

I view the practice through a therapeutic lens and I’m passionate about supporting you in a way that allows you to keep on doing the things that you love to do for as long as you possibly can. From surfers to runners to elite athletes looking to enhance performance or recovery, I also work with healthcare professionals, nine-to-fivers, parents of toddlers, grandparents, students, farmers, jewelry makers, and everyone in between. We can explore techniques to support your nervous system, manage stress, or minimize your risk of injury, or we could look at therapeutic applications for better sleep, pain management, enhancing mobility, building core strength, recovering from injury, or boosting mental resiliency.
