RAD Challenge: 3 Tips for Drinking More Water

As a part of the Healthy Living IG Challenge that I’m hosting, in collaboration with RAD Roller, we’re encouraging everyone (myself included) to drink 80oz. (or more) of water each day.

The other two parts of the challenge - 10min. of mobility + 20min. of exercise - are both already solid pillars of my daily self-care routine. But the drinking enough water part?? Well, that’s the area I struggle in. Even though I know how important drinking enough water is, I can get so caught up in my day that I simply forget. And then I feel the effects — brain fog, irritability, headache, fatigue… The list goes on.

So, I’m really focusing on getting my water in — at least 80oz, if not more, each and every day. A reminder that those seemingly simple changes oftentimes lead to the biggest shifts.

So if you’re with me on this one, here are three tips that I’ve found helpful to drink more water!

  1. Start your morning with a big ol’ glass of water.

I like to think of this as “getting ahead of the game.” Each morning, before coffee or food, I usually fill up a 24oz. mason jar with room temperature water and squeeze half a lemon in there plus a sprinkle of sea salt. I’m by no means a nutritionist, but the sea salt is said to help the body absorb water better while also reducing fluid retention. And I find that the lemon not only tastes good but helps with my digestion, too!

  2. If you don’t have a reusable water bottle, invest in one! Fill it up and carry it with you everywhere.

I gotta claim that this habit is one I’ve had for a while now — I carry my water bottle with me everywhere! And I find that it helps me keep track of my daily intake. For example, I have a 40oz. Hydroflask, so I know that I’ll get my 80oz. in by drinking the whole thing twice each day. If I’ve been surfing or worked up a good sweat, I’ll try and drink a third. I

t’s way more accessible these days (not to mention way more affordable than buying plastic water bottles) to find water bottle refill stations. Plus, I find that most restaurants/bars/airplanes don’t have a problem refilling my water bottle if I ask kindly (and it doesn’t hurt to buy something at the resto/bar or throw a little tip their way!).

  3. Set reminders. Seriously.

I know I’m not the only one that simply forgets to drink water. It’s so easy to get caught up in everything you have to get done during the day that drinking water regularly can sometimes fall to the wayside. So, I’ve decided to set some reminders for myself. I literally have reminders to “drink more water” scheduled in my phone for every hour or two. You could also write reminders on post-it notes and stick them around your house. Whatever it takes… Water is life!! Now go drink a glass.

Stay hydrated my friends! And don’t forget to move and stretch :)
