Yoga Update: YM500 + Therapeutic Specialist

Well ya’ll, I finally did it.

After 3+ years, hundreds of hours of lectures, countless hours of practice, and a handful of dedicated students to be my case studies… On December 1st I got the email that my requirements were met, my case studies were approved, and I’ve officially earned my 500-hours & Registered Therapeutic Specialist certifications with Yoga Medicine.

Thinking back to my first training with Tiffany & her team, I remember feeling so overwhelmed and out of place. I remember calling my mom that 1st night in tears. “Everyone is so smart. I don’t think I belong here.” But, thanks to the reassurance of my colleagues & the incredible YM teaching team, I’m so glad I continued on! And today I celebrate reaching a goal that seemed like just a dream a few years ago.

YM has impacted my teaching in the best possible ways, I feel like I’m better equipped to both show up for and support my students & clients.

And aside from teaching, one of the greatest gifts that this work has given me is a deeper appreciation for my own body & my own human experience.

Where I once used to strongly dislike my body, learning about the complexities of our anatomy & physiology as well as the innate intelligence & almost magical work of our brilliantly-designed human bodies has brought me to my knees in humility, gratitude, and reverence for this container and this life I get to experience.

Instead of anger towards my body, I now look at it through a lens of awe. Another goal that, many years ago, once felt like just a dream.

I’m honored to wear this jacket, to hold this title, and to be surrounded by such a diverse, supportive, & inspiring community that is Yoga Medicine. And while I carry this title of ‘teacher’ with pride, I also humbly accept the role of a forever student: learning, unlearning, and growing for as long as time allows.

So if you’ve made it this far (thank you!), let this be your reminder that (1) you are smart & you can learn anything with practice & patience, and (2) no matter where you are right now, with one step at a time, you’ll eventually get to where you want to go!

I’ll end this with my deepest gratitude for the YM teachers & community and for all of YOUR continued support. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! ❤️
